What is professional indemnity insurance?
Freelance professional indemnity insurance is there to protect you from the common pitfalls that many freelancers encounter. That includes unpaid invoices (if your client refuses to pay and threatens to bring a claim against you, professional indemnity can cover the amount owed to you), work that doesn’t meet client expectations and if a client threatens legal action against you. Professional indemnity covers your defence costs associated with a claim, as well as compensation if your client claims to suffer a financial loss as a result of your work.

Do I need professional indemnity insurance?
Think of professional indemnity insurance the same way you think of wearing a seatbelt when travelling. Nobody gets into a vehicle anticipating a bump, but we still buckle up to minimise the damage if something does go wrong. Professional indemnity insurance works in much the same way. No freelancer should begin work on a project expecting things to turn bad, but if they do your insurance will manage the problem by sourcing and paying for legal experts to help you. If you want to go into each project with confidence, you should have professional indemnity insurance.

When With Jack saved a freelancer from scope creep
A client wanted extra work completed for free, refused to pay the freelance developer and threatened legal action if they didn't comply. The insurance we arranged covered legal fees to defend the freelancer, and paid the developer the outstanding balance that the client owed.
We asked ourselves one important question…
What do we want out of an insurance provider?
